It’s not your typical newspaper. Satire has a long and honored tradition in this country. The Onion was founded in the late 1980′s and is published weekly in print and on the web. The Onion looks, feels, and reads exactly like any other newspaper: facts, quotes, photographs, local and international stories, info graphics, editorials, even horoscopes. Unlike the New York Times, however, it has no reporters, foreign bureaus, or objective analysis. What it does have is the benefit of hindsight, of looking at the story after the dust has settled. To use a sports analogy, if The New York Times is the championship game, The Onion is the post-game analysis. It’s there to make you laugh and hopefully, maybe even help you understand the world around you a little better. Correspondent: Robert Krulwich.
